Even then she was looking good

I didn’t post anything about Gerri on Valentine day, but that’s because I don’t need a special day to tell you how great she is…

When I moved to Cookeville to attend college after the Air Force, she was the very first person I saw as I stopped to eat at the Wendy’s on Willow Street.

It was very busy at the time when I walked in but I saw this Pentecostal girl working behind the counter and she made an impression on me.

A few months later when sitting across from her during College and Career Sunday School Class I knew I had to ask her out.

The rest is history.

Gerri deserved much better than me, you see she faced so many trials before we met, and often I think God should have given her a husband who could let her sit around and eat bon bons and drink ice tea.

But for whatever the reason, I am blessed to call her my friend and wife and mother to my little Jack. She works hard at her job during the day and then even harder with Jack and me at night, we are not the easiest to live with and even more so now that she is working with Jack on his school work. By nine o’clock she is exhausted and often to bed to do it all over again.

We don’t have the best house or go on the best vacations or cruises, I know she often wonders if we will ever move to a better house or have a fancy kitchen, and I can’t answer those questions for her.

What I hope we remember is that God is on our side and that each day she can feel the love I have for her during the harshness of her work or the tiredness of trying to keep the old house going. I hope she can feel the love Jack has for her when he tells her sweet nothings especially when he doesn’t expect a reeses egg in return. What I hope she feels is that a trip to the mountain or to the zoo is just as exciting to Jack and me as going to Disney World or Sea World.

What I hope she remembers is that we are blessed with gifts beyond worldly items.

I’m thankful for her everyday.
